It contains very few hard bones, and the majority of its body mass is gelatinous.īeing formed of a gelatinous, blobby substance allows the Blobfish to prevent itself from being crushed by water pressure, which is advantageous in the crushing depths where it lives. Though being a blob can seem like a drawback, it benefits the Blobfish’s way of existence. However, they live in depths as deep as 4000 feet. This deep-sea animal always inhabits depths greater than 1600 feet in an environment of exceptionally high pressure. According to a public poll conducted by the Ugly Animal Preservation Society, this drooping, slimy fish with a gelatinous appearance is one of the ugliest fish in the entire world.
